Tourism Indochina: Dara Airport Hotel lands at Ratana Plaza

Dara Airport Hotel lands at Ratana Plaza

A new hotel serving the Phnom Penh International Airport opened on July 1 at Ratana Plaza on the left off Russian Boulevard just before Hanoi Road on the way to the airport from central Phnom Penh.

The Dara Airport Hotel has 155 rooms with a fifth-floor reception, swimming pool, bar and spa. A 60-room second addition to the hotel on an adjacent street, with 11 long-stay apartments, in a building along with a restaurant and a branch of Canadia Bank is scheduled to open in November. When the adjacent addition is opened, the hotel’s total room count will be 226.

General Manager Pierre Bernard, who formerly worked at the Cambodiana Hotel and the Independence Hotel in Sihanoukville, says one of the best features of the hotel is the fifth floor open area where guests can relax in the open air, adjacent to the lobby.

“The advantage is to be close to the airport,” Bernard said.

The hotel is part of the Ratana Plaza complex, which houses a Lucky supermarket, Lucky Burger, iOne computers and a number of other shops.

An opening promotion rate of $55 per night is being offered for single rooms, $60 for double. The rates will later increase to $80 plus, and $90 for a deluxe room. The suites, with living rooms, couches and big screen televisions, start from about $200.

The hotel’s restaurant is called Blue Sky and has Western, Khmer and Chinese menus. The Attitude Lounge is located adjacent to the fifth floor rotunda and reception area.

Bernard said the hotel would focus on corporate clients.

“We already have guests, a majority of them are corporate from the government and factory sector,” Bernard said. “We are close to the golf course and the Cambodia Country Club,” he said.

Fitness and pool membership is being offered in an early bird special for $64.50 per month.

Tourism Indochina: Hotel De La Paix Siem Reap rebranded to Park Hyatt

Tourism Indochina: Hotel De La Paix Siem Reap rebranded to Park Hyatt

Park Hyatt Siem Reap will be the first Hyatt-branded property in fast-growing destination, and 14th Hyatt-branded property in Southeast Asia.

Hyatt Hotels Corporation has signed a management agreement with Hotel De La Paix for the first Hyatt-branded hotel in Cambodia. Under the agreement, Hotel De La Paix Siem Reap, one of the country’s top-rated hotels, will be rebranded as Park Hyatt Siem Reap. The hotel will close on June 30, 2012 for a complete renovation and is expected to open as Park Hyatt Siem Reap in the first quarter of 2013.

Located at the center of one of Asia’s major emerging cultural destinations, the property, designed by award-winning Bangkok-based interior designer Bill Bensley, was voted as Cambodia’s No. 1 hotel by Travel + Leisure and ranked No. 29 on its World’s Best Hotels 2010 list.

“This globally recognized property embodies the distinctive experience that our guests expect from Park Hyatt along with a local character that amazes those visiting this wonderful country,” said Ratnesh Verma, senior vice president, real estate and development – Asia Pacific for Hyatt Hotels & Resorts. “We are thrilled to add this remarkable property to the Hyatt family, adding a jewel in our growing portfolio of hotels in Southeast Asia.”

There are currently 12 Hyatt-branded properties in Southeast Asia, with additional plans to introduce new hotels in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Busan, South Korea; and Bangkok, Thailand, which support the company’s long-term goal of expanding the presence of Hyatt-branded hotels in the markets where its guests are traveling.

Park Hyatt Siem Reap will be situated nearby the renowned 12th century ruins of Angkor, a UNESCO World Heritage site that researchers believe was one of the largest preindustrial cities in the world. The temples in the area number more than 1,000 and include Angkor Wat, the world’s largest single religious monument. The hotel will also be a short distance from Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport, Cambodia’s second largest airport, which provides non-stop service to several major regional markets including Bangkok, Hanoi, Kuala Lumpur, Ho Chi Minh City, Phnom Penh, Seoul, Singapore and Vientiane.

"We are excited to work with Park Hyatt and Bill Bensley to build on the success and achievements of our hotel in Siem Reap,” said Eddie Kiasrithanakorn, Managing Director, Hotel De La Paix Co., Limited, “and we look forward to creating new elements of luxury in terms of product and service for our valued guests. We believe that Park Hyatt will continue to strengthen our award winning community service programs and lead the development of the arts in Cambodia."

Park Hyatt Siem Reap will include 107 guest rooms and suites. The hotel plans to feature two restaurants, one bar and a retail bakery. The hotel will also feature meeting facilities, a spa, fitness center, and two swimming pools.

“We are honored to work with Hotel De La Paix Co., Limited to rebrand this renowned Cambodian hotel into Park Hyatt Siem Reap,” said Larry Tchou, managing director for Asia Pacific, Hyatt Hotels & Resorts. “We are confident the hotel will deliver a new hospitality experience to guests visiting the nearby UNESCO World Heritage site or traveling in Cambodia.” Source : Hyatt Hotels Corporation(29th March 2012)

A new US$100 million five star hotel is being built by the Sokimex conglomerate in Cambodia's capital

The 799-room hotel which is expected to be completed by 2011 will be situated on the east side of the riverfront on Chhroy Changva peninsula in Phnom Penh's Russey Keo district.

"The 16-storey Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel will be built on six hectares of land which is under a 99-year land lease from city hall from 2007," Sokimex president Sok Kong told the Phnom Penh Post.

Sok Kong said the location of the hotel was atmospheric with beautiful river views but admitted, "There is a problem with traffic because there is only one bridge for access".

He said that although the city had recently experienced a hotel boom no new conference facilities have been built to entice business travellers to the city.

The Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel will feature two conference rooms with seating capacity for 1,500 persons and parking spaces for 1,000 cars.

"The hotel's conference centre will seat up to 1,500 people, and will be the [country's] biggest conference hall. It will raise Cambodia's reputation internationally," he said.

"The Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel will be the hotel with the largest conference hall in the city, and it will be suitable for international conferences," said So Mara, undersecretary of state in the tourism ministry.

Cambodia Hotel Association president Loo Meng welcomed the new hotel which will create 1,200 jobs for Cambodians.

“It is a good sign for the tourism sector. It shows that the tourism industry is getting better and better,” he said.

"The hotel will be good for high-class guests, and it will be as high quality as those in neighbouring countries."

Sok Kong said that the Sokha Phnom Penh would be the third five-star hotel operated by Sokimex in Cambodia, joining existing Sokha hotels in Sihanoukville and Siem Reap. Two more were on the drawing boards, he added.

Sokimex is also building two golf courses in a protected area on Bokor Mountain, Sok Kong said, adding that the company was also planning a resort at the site of old Bokor casino.
