APSARA Authority for the Protection and Management of Angkor and the Region of Siem Reap

APSARA (Authority for the Protection and Management of Angkor and the Region of Siem Reap) is the Cambodian management authority responsible for protecting the archaeological park of Angkor. Founded in 1995, it is in charge of the research, protection, and conservation as well as the urban and tourist development of the park.

The announcement from APSARA Authority for Bakheng Mountain, and Baphoun Temple in Siem Reap as followings:

1. 300-Person Limit for Bakheng Mountain Climbers Set: base on meeting on 18th October 2011 between the Apsara Authority and five Siem Reap tourist associations that focused on conserving the ancient site, which its damages caused by constant foot traffic of people wanting to see the sun rise and set over Bakheng Mountain. thus, Apsara Authority decided that:

- Only 300 visitors will allow to climb to Bakheng Mountain per time, not per day. It will be affected from 27th Oct 2011.

- All Visitors can stay as long as they like and tourists would be allowed into the temple between 5:30 am and 5:30 pm.

- The entrance way from the south is opened for climbing and the north will be exiting way.

- Apsara will cooperate with the Tourism Police and heritage protecting police and deploy the order tourism agents to facilitate and to show direction for tourists.

2. Re-open for visitors to visit Baphuon Temple: From 14th November 2011, Baphuon Temple will re-open again for both national and international visitors to visit.
